Planning Manager | Oxford  Are you ready to lead the strategic planning function for one of the UK’s most ambitious life-sciences developments?

We are partnering with a main contractor to appoint a Planning Manager to oversee the delivery of a major project. This is an executive-level opportunity for a master scheduler who thrives on high-stakes delivery, complex stakeholder environments, and shaping the strategic direction of large-scale infrastructure.

The Project: A flagship facility located in Oxford, this development sets a new benchmark for laboratory and R&D space, incorporating 70% adaptable wet/dry lab floors, advanced MEP integration, and a rigorous sustainability mandate.

Why this role demands a leader:
  • Strategic Oversight: You will own the high-level project strategy, translating complex client requirements into an achievable, robust master programme that dictates site performance across all phases.

  • Team & Function Leadership: You will lead the planning function, mentoring site planners, integrating complex subcontractor programmes, and fostering a culture of technical rigour.

  • Board-Level Reporting: Act as the key advisor to project directors and client stakeholders, providing high-level analysis on time-risk exposure, productivity trends, and critical path forecasting.

  • Innovation & Influence: You are the architect of the project’s delivery methodology, championing new ways to improve efficiency in the construction of highly technical, controlled environments.

Are you the right fit? We are looking for a seasoned professional with:

  • Strategic Planning Expertise: Proven experience managing large-scale, complex programmes (valued at £150m+) within high-tech, pharmaceutical, or R&D sectors.

  • Methodological Depth: Deep mastery of Primavera P6, with an ability to design and maintain complex WBS structures and manage multi-contractor logic.

  • Commercial Integration: A comprehensive understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contract mechanisms, including Early Warning and Compensation Event impacts on the programme.

  • Soft Power: The ability to influence stakeholders, negotiate project timelines, and facilitate high-level risk workshops with board-level participants.

  • Professional Standards: Membership (Chartered status preferred) with a professional body (APM, CIOB, RICS, ICE, or AACE).

The Opportunity Our client is looking for a leader who sees the "big picture." You will be responsible for ensuring that the technical complexities of the lab-fit out, structural sequencing, and façade engineering are harmonized into a seamless delivery schedule that meets both safety and financial targets.

Ready to lead? If you have a track record of driving delivery excellence on flagship projects and want to take the lead on a facility that will shape the future of UK science, we want to hear from you.
