An established main contractor based in West Malling, Kent is seeking an experienced Design Manager to take the lead on major Industrial, Warehouse, Commercial, and Retail schemes.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident, proactive Design Manager who can step into a No.1 role on projects—somebody who can take ownership from day one, navigate complexities, and drive design delivery across fast‑paced construction programmes.
The role is a mix of office and site work.
The Role
- Lead design management on new-build and refurbishment projects
- Work closely with pre‑construction, project delivery teams, and external consultants
- Ensure design information is coordinated, buildable, and delivered on time
- Attend and manage design meetings both in the office and on site
- Manage design risks, technical queries, and programme impacts
- Provide clear, solutions‑focused leadership throughout the project lifecycle
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment
- Strong track record on Industrial / Warehouse / Commercial / Retail projects
- Essential: Steel frame experience
- Ability to operate as the lead Design Manager, independently managing the full design process
- Confident communicator, problem‑solver, and decision‑maker
- Comfortable working 3 days per week in the West Malling office, with additional site visits as required
Package
- Up to £85,000 basic salary
- £6,000 car allowance
- Travel to sites covered
