The Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic, business-minded Planning Manager to oversee, drive, and govern our project controls and scheduling functions across multiple major water authority frameworks.
In this pivotal business leadership role, you will move beyond individual project execution or basic schedule maintenance to manage the macro-level planning strategy for the wider organization. You will lead a regional team of planners utilizing Primavera P6 to ensure robust progress tracking, resource optimization, and strict risk mitigation across a diverse portfolio of MEICA and civil engineering water infrastructure frameworks. As a key business partner, your insights will directly influence company commercial strategy, executive decision-making, and high-level framework delivery.
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Oversight & Governance: Lead the business-wide development, standardization, and governance of all Primavera P6 programs.
  • Business & Commercial Integration: Ensure schedules are fully integrated with enterprise commercial risk assessments, Earned Value Management (EVM), and Critical Path Method (CPM) analyses to protect company margins.
  • Framework Management: Act as the primary corporate point of contact for scheduling and project controls for major clients, ensuring all programs comply with strict NEC3/NEC4 contract requirements.
  • Resource & Capacity Planning: Oversee macro-level resource profiling across key regions to anticipate bottlenecks, optimize labor allocation, and ensure cross-functional business alignment.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor, manage, and scale a regional team of P6 Planners, establishing organizational best practices in scheduling, reporting, and forensic delay analysis.
  • Executive Reporting: Translate complex, multi-million-pound program data into clear, high-level dashboards and actionable strategic insights for senior directors and executive stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For (Key Criteria)
  • Technical Leadership: Expert-level mastery of Primavera P6, with a proven track record of managing complex portfolios and business units rather than just individual projects.
  • Water Sector Expertise: Deep understanding of non-infrastructure, MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation), and civil engineering works within the UK water sector.
  • Contractual Fluency: Advanced expertise in NEC3/NEC4 contracts, specifically regarding accepted programs, Compensation Events (CEs), and forensic delay analysis.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence clients, cross-functional corporate directors, and subcontractors alike.
  • Qualifications: A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Controls (or equivalent experience). A valid UK driving license is essential.
