An opportunity is available for an experienced Mechanical Planner to join the Integrated Planning team supporting the delivery of one of the UK's largest and most technically complex engineering and construction programmes.
Working within a multi-disciplinary project controls environment, the Mechanical Planner will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and integrating schedules covering the mechanical scope of works. The role supports activities across design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, construction, and commissioning, ensuring alignment between strategic programme objectives and detailed execution plans.
The successful candidate will work within a matrix organisation, collaborating with project delivery teams, contractors, and stakeholders to drive schedule performance and support successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and manage integrated schedules for the mechanical scope of works.
- Support the delivery of a robust integrated planning framework aligned with programme objectives and project controls requirements.
- Coordinate planning activities across the full project lifecycle, including:
- Design
- Engineering
- Procurement
- Manufacturing
- Logistics
- Construction
- Commissioning
- Ensure alignment between strategic programme milestones and detailed work package schedules.
- Manage and monitor schedule interfaces, dependencies, and interdependencies across multiple workstreams and contractors.
- Support the integration of planning and reporting activities from Level 1 through to Level 5 schedules.
- Conduct critical path analysis and identify schedule risks, constraints, and opportunities.
- Produce planning reports, progress updates, look-ahead schedules, and performance metrics.
- Work closely with engineering, construction, commissioning, and project controls teams to ensure programme alignment.
- Support recovery planning and mitigation strategies where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across planning and project controls functions.
- Proven experience as a Planner or Mechanical Planner on large-scale engineering, infrastructure, energy, defence, nuclear, oil & gas, or industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical installation, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Experience developing and managing integrated project schedules within complex delivery environments.
- Demonstrable experience managing programme interfaces and stakeholder relationships.
- Experience working within matrix organisations and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to interpret engineering and construction information and translate it into effective schedules.
- Advanced Primavera P6 experience is essential.
- Strong understanding of planning and project controls methodologies.
- Experience managing and integrating Level 1–Level 5 schedules.
- Knowledge of earned value management, progress measurement, critical path analysis, and schedule risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project reporting tools.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to planning and programme performance.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly regulated and fast-paced project environment.
